Today, countries and cities face unprecedented challenges such as resource scarcity, climate change, ageing infrastructure, and security risks. To promote a more sustainable future, investing in basic science and Deep Tech, early commercial development and building partnership models that are long-lasting, scalable and transformative, and which create shared value will be critical.

Today, countries and cities face unprecedented challenges such as resource scarcity, climate change, ageing infrastructure, and security risks. To promote a more sustainable future, investing in basic science and Deep Tech, early commercial development and building partnership models that are long-lasting, scalable and transformative, and which create shared value will be critical. 

In this session, we want to discuss the: 

  • Public-private sector partnerships that are needed; 
  • Collective responsibility and shared accountability between corporates, government, investors and startups in this increasingly complex world; and
  • Importance of framing decisions regarding environmental, social, and human impact for the long-term, rather than on short-term gains such as next quarter's earnings report.

Paula Amunategui, Regional Leader - Digital Innovation, Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific

Paula Amunategui has over 15 years of international business experience in technology-based industries in various leadership positions and geographies, with more than three years of experience in the Asia Pacific.

Paula is part of the Asia Pacific Business Development Group at Roche Diagnostics, the world’s largest In Vitro Diagnostics Solutions manufacturer. She leads the team responsible for driving digital and business innovation in the region (16 markets) through various transformation initiatives. Before joining Roche, she held senior digital roles at Alstom/GE Power Generation and General Motors Europe.

Paula graduated from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile with a Masters Degree in Journalism and Social Information.

Tetsuya Haraoka, Head of Research Team - Process Innovation Group Global Headquarters, Yusen Logistics Global Management Limited

Tetsuya Haraoka has more than 20 years of experience in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management industry in Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong. After joining Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI), the R&D company of NYK group, in 2009, he has been supporting R&D activities and projects across NYK's group of companies. In 2017, he was assigned to Symphony Creative Solutions, established in BLOCK71 Singapore, where he launched a corporate innovation program named 'Ocean of Opportunities (O3) Challenge'. This program was jointly organised by Ocean Network Express (ONE) and NUS Enterprise to identify and solve the shipping and logistics business challenges through the collaboration with startup community and stakeholders. In April 2019, he was transferred to Yusen Logistics Global Management in Hong Kong, where he continues to focus on digitalisation and innovation of logistics and supply chain management.

Kiran Mysore, Principal, The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners Co, Ltd (UTEC)

Kiran Mysore is a Principal at UTEC, Japan, a Deep Tech Venture Capital (VC) fund with an AUM (Assets Under Management) of $800 million.

Kiran is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher turned venture capitalist and leads UTEC's global AI investments. Since joining UTEC in 2018, Kiran has led close to $30 million of investments in frontier science and Deep Tech companies in Singapore, India and the USA. Prior to that, Kiran worked on Open innovation at Deloitte Japan. He was an AI/Machine Learning researcher at The University of Tokyo, where he also co-founded a student-led social enterprise named 'Kriya'. Kiran was featured in the 2020 FORBES Asia 30 Under 30 list for his contribution to the ecosystem in the Finance & VC category.

Victor Tan, Director - Venture Investing, SGInnovate

Victor Tan is currently part of SGInnovate's Venture Investing team in Singapore and concurrently manages investments and operations in North America. SGInnovate is focused on enabling entrepreneurs in Singapore to build startups with a strong emphasis on science and Deep Tech. As a private organisation owned by the Singapore Government, they bring together partners from the private sector, institutes of higher learning, and research organisations as part of Singapore's broader innovation ecosystem.

Moderator's Profile:
Susanna Hasenoehrl, The Sustainability Speaker


Susanna Hasenoehrl is an international keynote speaker and strategic advisor on sustainable business and climate change. She works with business leaders and their teams, empowering them to embrace sustainability as part of their strategic agenda.

Previously, Susanna worked as Director (Asia) at Yara International, the crop nutrition company for the future. She was responsible for the growth and commercialisation of the company's Digital Farming solutions developed for the 350 million smallholders in Asia and the Sustainability Lead. Susanna's earlier career spans global leadership roles at Siemens, Nokia and leading startups, including the world's first free mobile operator Blyk, the world's largest migraine patient community and the healthy nutrition recommendation engine, Joice. She is a listed KeyNote Women speaker on Sustainability, Climate and Digitisation and an Associate Member of the Asian Professional Speakers Singapore (APSS).
