Overview

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Foundation course is an introduction to the principles and practices that enable an organisation to reliably and economically scale critical services. Introducing a site-reliability dimension requires organisational re-alignment, a focus on engineering and automation, and the adoption of new working paradigms. Tailored for those focused on large-scale service availability, the curriculum highlights the evolution of SRE and its future direction. It equips participants with the practices, methods, and tools to engage people across the organization in reliability and stability.

The course uses real-life scenarios and case stories to make the learning experience practical and applicable. Upon completion, participants will have tangible takeaways, such as an understanding of how to set and track Service Level Objectives (SLOs). The course was developed by leveraging key SRE sources, engaging with thought-leaders, and working with organizations to extract real-life best practices for starting SRE adoption. This course positions learners to successfully complete the SRE Foundation certification exam.

Course Description & Learning Outcomes

The SRE Foundation course provides a comprehensive introduction to the core principles and practices of Site Reliability Engineering. The curriculum is structured to provide a practical understanding of SRE's role and its impact on an organisation's operations.

Upon completion, participants will have a practical understanding of:

  • Observability as a key indicator of a service's health.

  • SRE tools, automation techniques, and the importance of security.

  • Learning from failure through concepts like anti-fragility, Chaos Engineering, and blameless post-mortems.

  • The organisational impact that introducing SRE can bring, including on-call necessities and adoption patterns.
