Singapore is seen as the gateway to Southeast Asia's MedTech market and Denmark is well-known for Medicon Valley Europe's leading hub for medical and welfare technology. As regional springboards with critical mass of best-in-class companies and startups, how can Singapore and Denmark pave the way for more solutions to reach the markets and patients? How can both countries increase public participation to ensure that solutions and innovations are citizen-centred?

Speakers' Profiles:

Dorte Bech Vizard, Ambassador of Denmark to Singapore

Ms Dorte Bech Vizard is the Ambassador of Denmark to Singapore and Brunei since September 2016. Prior to this appointment, she was Director of Investment Promotion and Innovation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

With a Master of Law from 1998, she started her career at the Royal Danish Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, followed by several roles with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, including a posting to the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi, India, as Counsellor on political issues.

She has also worked with the Ministry of Social Affairs of Denmark as Head of Department for Legal and International Affairs, and in the private sector with Deloitte Business Consulting as Manager of a strategy team. In 2013, Dorte Bech Vizard was awarded the Order of Dannebrog, a Danish knighthood. She is married and has two children.

Dr. Lisa Ooi, Director of Healthcare & Wellness,Economic Development Board (EDB)

Lisa Ooi, PhD, is Director (Healthcare & Wellness) at the Singapore Economic Development Board. She has previous experience at ASLAN Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Healthcare and the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR). Lisa has approximately 15 years of experience in the biomedical industry in the areas of hematology, oncology biomarker development, clinical pharmacology, preclinical and clinical development, as well as large-scale private and public research partnerships and investment promotion. Lisa holds a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a MSc and PhD from Stanford University in Chemical Engineering and Chemical and Systems Biology.

Martin Vesterby, Director, INNO X HEALTH

Martin Vesterby has a long career of education and innovation inhealthcare. He is the Director of INNO X HEALTH at Aarhus University,Board Member & Co-Founder of Visikon, Initiator and Co-Creator of CrowdsWhoCare, Co-Owner of Stauning Whisky as well as a Research Business Manager at Denmark's largest health science institute, Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University. Martin holds a Medical Doctorate as well as a PhDin Telemedicine and Innovation.

Dr. Sidney Yee, CEO, Diagnostics Development Hub and Executive Vice President - Incubation and Startup Management, A*ccelerate

Sidney is CEO of Diagnostics Development (DxD) Hub and Executive Vice President of Incubation and Startup Management (ISM) division at A*ccelerate. Her team of diagnostics and medical device specialists in DxD Hub focuses on accelerating productisation of innovative diagnostic technologies. Sidney leads ISM to strategize and support start-up activities related to technologies and innovations, including setting up A*StartCentral, a pioneering deep tech open innovation lab.

A serial entrepreneur with extensive experience in R&D, starting companies and investments prior to joining A*STAR, Sidney continues to be actively involved in med-tech and innovation activities. She is non-executive board member of several medtech companies, is a member of SPRING Singapore's Network of MedTech Advisors, and serves as a reviewer on various diagnostics and medtech funding schemes.

Sidney was a researcher with A*STAR's Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, and a research scholar at The Scripps Research Institute.

Dr. Tan Yeow Kee, Founder, SoundEye

Dr. Tan was a researcher in Agency of Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) for 12 years. He has been working on speech processing, robotic and intelligent sensoring. In April 2016, he started his own company, SoundEye, an intelligent sensor that monitors abnormal sound events and motion that can be used for emergency monitoring, security and baby/child monitoring. SoundEye has won numerous awards that include SingaporeUP Carepack Well-Being Challenge. SoundEye was also the finalist for the Eldercare Innovation Award 2014 and Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation Award 2015 and 2016.

Simon Gordon, Deputy Director - Venture Building, SGInnovate

Simon Gordon

Simon Gordon is a Deputy Director of SGInnovate's Venture Building team. In this role, Simon invests in and actively builds very early-stage medical and healthcare-related tech startups.Prior to SGInnovate, Simon was a management consultant focusedon the commercialisation of early stage MedTech in areas such asdigital healthcare, robotic rehabilitation and devices. Simon also has experience advising MNCs in licensing or acquiring startups and their technology.

Simon graduated with a Masters of Bioscience Enterprise and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. His research is focused on the commercialisation of early-stage technology and separately, the underlying neuroendocrinology of postpartum depression.
