Overview
Good vision and eye health are essential for maintaining a stable quality of life, enabling daily activities and ensuring personal safety. However, more people in Singapore are being diagnosed with eye conditions such as glaucoma at a younger age, which can lead to blindness. Additionally, myopia remains a significant public health issue in Singapore, with persistently high rates over the past few decades.
An ageing population means demand for eye services will keep growing. Hence, not only are clinical trials crucial in keeping up with the rising demand for more effective eye treatments, they are also essential in identifying new methods to tackle eye diseases prevalent in the Asia-Pacific region. By enhancing capabilities in conducting clinical trials for ophthalmic and vision research, downstream impacts such as raising healthcare costs, lost productivity and the need for long-term care, can potentially be prevented.
This webinar convenes key ecosystem stakeholders, spanning clinical investigation to data management, united in their concerted and sustained efforts to conduct high-quality and impactful clinical trials and research studies. A/Prof Audrey Chia will share notable ophthalmic and vision clinical trials in Singapore and its impact, including findings from the Atropine Treatment of Myopia (ATOM) studies, which has benefitted many children undergoing treatment for myopia.
Specialising in data management, Ms Ng Xuanhui will outline the value and methods of standardisation for data such as eye-tracking metrics and clinical ophthalmic data. As a biostatistician who has supported multiple clinical studies, Dr Sarah Burkill will give an overview of key statistical considerations unique to ophthalmic and vision trials.
CRIS Connect is a monthly webinar series organised by Singapore Clinical Research Institute (SCRI) and supported by our programmes and their ecosystem partners. Find out how our collective effort is advancing national-level initiatives such as: the clinical trials ecosystem, healthcare innovation and clinical adoption, precision medicine, cancer and cardiovascular research programmes, as well as cell therapy manufacturing.
