Overview
Excited to announce the upcoming special edition of Morning Pitch Asia @Singapore in collaboration with Wavemaker Partners. This session includes a panel session inviting a General Partner from Wavemaker Partners and their promising Singapore startups interested in the Japanese market. In this edition, we will welcome Wavemaker Partners, one of Southeast Asia’s leading VCs investing in Enterprise, Deep Tech, and Sustainability startups, to share its perspectives on Southeast Asian startups and opportunities for expansion into the Japanese market. This will be followed by pitches from two Wavemaker Partners portfolio startups interested in the Japanese market.
Morning Pitch is the pitching platform hosted by Deloitte where we aim to create collaborations between Asian large size corporations/investors and startups.
The event series was originally launched in Japan in 2013, where it has been organized over 500 times, over 2,450 startups have pitched, and more than 65 IPOs and 475+ business alliances have been created.

Andy Hwang, General Partner, Wavemaker Partners
Andy is a General Partner at Wavemaker Partners. He leads the firm’s early-stage fund, Wavemaker Ventures, working closely with the investment team and founders from fundraising to scaling. He also oversees Wavemaker’s corporate innovation initiatives—partnering with leading enterprises to access disruptive startups and grow their presence in Southeast Asia through strategic partnerships, investments, and M&A. Wavemaker Partners is Southeast Asia's leading venture capital firm investing in Enterprise, Deep Tech, and Sustainability startups. Since 2012, it has backed over 200 companies in the region, with over US$500 million in total committed capital across Wavemaker Ventures (early-stage investments), and Wavemaker Growth (growth-stage). The firm has also generated over US$2 billion in enterprise value through successful exits. Gempei Asama, Head of ASEAN Region, Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support
Gempei is Head of ASEAN Region in Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support. He is leading Morning Pitch Asia, which aims to create innovative new businesses between startups and large corporations or investors across the Asia Pacific. His expertise is finance and he has a lot of experience in helping startups get funding and expand their footprints into other regions to scale up. He has been supporting a government agency to promote open innovation between ASEAN startups and MNCs in Singapore. Before moving to Singapore, he launched multiple startup supporting programs in Tokyo, Japan, and help quite a few startups from seed to growth stage using his financial expertise. Besides, he was engaged in corporate venturing activity such as building corporate venture capital arms or running acceleration programs with Japanese large corporations.

Leon Lim, CEO & Founder, Groundup.ai
An NUS alumnus with a decade in tech, Leon Lim is the CEO and Founder of Groundup.ai, a Singapore deep-tech company advancing Physical AI and agentic machine intelligence to eliminate unplanned downtime for critical assets. Having successfully scaled and exited two ventures, including managing 3,000 servers in a Tier III data centre, Leon draws on his background as a Singapore National Youth Orchestra French Horn player to drive vibration and acoustic anomaly detection. Groundup.ai is a Singapore deep-tech company advancing Physical AI for the world's most critical assets, serving mission-critical defense, maritime, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. Dr Mark Lim is the CEO of Aliena Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based space technology company pioneering electric propulsion systems for small satellites. He leads the commercialisation of advanced Hall thruster technologies, helping satellite operators achieve efficient mobility in orbit. With expertise spanning engineering, strategy, and deep-tech commercialisation, he actively contributes to the growth of Singapore's emerging space economy. Aliena Pte Ltd is a Singapore based full stack electric propulsion company for spacecraft, spun out of Nanyang Technological University. Aliena designs, builds, and tests Hall thruster systems that give satellites the ability to maneuver, adjust orbit, and extend their operational life, capabilities that are becoming essential as space missions grow more ambitious and more varied.
