Quantum Computingwill ultimatelyrevolutionisethe future economyand many different industries.Itis ahigh-stakes race towards achieving thequantum advantage, wherebyquantum computerswould be able tocrunch data fasterthan traditional computersand solve problems that are currentlyunsolvable.

Technologycompanies like IBM and Googleare major players incutting-edgequantumcomputers that will radicallydisruptvarious industries. However, there are many advantages forentrepreneurs andstartupsin the fieldto bring their research out to the market toimpact thequantum computing scene.

In this panel discussion, ourscientist-entrepreneurswill share insightsonthe risks and advantages in bringing theirstartupsinto the competition,as well as their successesand failures that brought them to where they are today.

Speakers' Profiles:

Tommaso Demarie, CEO & Co-Founder, EntropicaLabs

Tommaso Demarie is a quantum information theorist with more than 8 years experience in quantum computing. He holds a PhD from Macquarie University, Australia, and is an alumni of Singapore's Centre for Quantum Technologies. Tommaso is the CEO and co-founder of Entropica Labs, a startup building advanced computational tools to address the hardest problems in molecular biology.

Shabnam Safaei, Founder-in-Residence, Entrepreneur First

Shabnam has received her PhD in Physics from Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy. After couple of postdocs in Iran and Turkey, she moved to Singapore in late 2013 and worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in NUS. Since January 2019 she has joined Entrepreneur First here in Singapore to found a deep-tech company.

Si-Hui Tan, CSO, Horizon Quantum Computing

Si-Hui Tan is the Chief Science Officer at Horizon Quantum Computing and a Visiting Professor of the Niels Bohr International Academy at the University of Copenhagen. Prior to joining Horizon, she was a researcher for five years at the Singapore University of Technology and Design and for three years at the A*STAR Data Storage Institute.

Tan holds a Bachelor of Science with honors in Physics from Caltech and PhD in Physics from MIT. Her research interest is in quantum information science, which lies at the intersection of quantum mechanics and information theory. Tan has pioneered novel protocols that provides enhancements by harnessing quantum mechanical features, including cryptographic primitives for quantum networks and sensing primitives for quantum radar. She has co-authored 19 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

In addition to her research pursuits, Tan is active in public service. She co-founded the SUTD Postdoc Society and served as its President for a year. She is currently a member and elected Treasurer of the Zonta Club of Copenhagen Multicultural, which empowers women through service and advocacy.
