Overview

Cell, tissue and gene therapy products (CTGTPs) are medicinal products used in the treatment of human diseases and physical conditions such as blood and solid cancers, as well as regenerative treatments for burns, cartilage repair, etc. Global population ageing is increasing the prevalence of degenerative diseases, whilst there is an increasing trend of early-onset cancer in younger adults. Hence, CTGTPs have come to the fore as new possible therapeutic options for rare diseases, cancer and age‑related conditions.

In 2020, the Advanced Cell Therapy and Research Institute, Singapore (ACTRIS) was set up to centralise resources, manpower and capabilities across Singapore to enable more robust operations and scale up manufacturing of cell therapy products to increase patient access to these treatments. With its facility launched in 2023, ACTRIS has supported the development and manufacture of these treatments to serve local healthcare needs, including the development of the Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, where a patient’s own immune cells, are engineered to target specific cancer cells.

This webinar features senior leads from ACTRIS, Adj A/Prof Yap Eng Soo, who will present emerging innovations in cell engineering and Singapore’s regulatory and manufacturing readiness. In his role as Chief Medical Officer (CMO), he will share ACTRIS’ role in enabling the next wave of cell therapy. As Deputy CMO, Dr Esther Chan will outline the current clinical landscape of CAR-T therapies, emerging indications and practical considerations for management of patients receiving CAR-T treatments.

CRIS Connect is a monthly webinar series organised by Singapore Clinical Research Institute (SCRI) and supported by our programmes and their ecosystem partners. Find out how our collective effort is advancing national-level initiatives such as: the clinical trials ecosystem, healthcare innovation and clinical adoption, precision medicine, cancer and cardiovascular research programmes, as well as cell therapy manufacturing.
