BioMetallica is a sustainable manufacturing Deep Tech startup that utilises synthetic biology to recycle precious metals from various waste sources, including electronic waste, spent autocatalysts, mine tailings, and lithium-ion battery waste.

Project role: Biohydrometallurgy Process Optimisation for Precious Metals with Enhanced Metal Selectivity

Task and Duties:

Design, develop, and optimise chemical processes for the extraction and recovery of precious metals from electronic waste and other feedstocks. 

  • Conduct experiments and simulations to improve the efficiency and scalability of metal recovery processes. 

  • Apply chemical engineering principles to design and implement efficient and sustainable processes for metal separation and purification.

  • Develop and refine chemical pre-treatment methods to enhance metal selectivity and purity. 

  • Analyse data from pilot tests to identify potential issues and areas for improvement. 

  • Work closely with the R&D team to transition successful pilot processes to commercial production. 

  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all chemical and biological processes of the metal cyano complexes.

  • Monitor process parameters and make adjustments as necessary to maintain optimal performance. 

  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve process efficiency and reduce costs. 

  • Participate in ongoing research and development projects to advance BioMetallica’s technological capabilities in bioextraction.
