Job Description

BetaLife is looking for an exceptional wet lab research scientist to play a key role in developing our stem cell-based therapy for diabetes. The scientist will lead the process development and early phase CMC activities, specifically the development and optimisation of cell manufacturing processes in scale out and scaled up platforms, and application of analytical methods for in-process control and release testing of a new cell therapy product for diabetes. The scientist will work closely with an established CDMO partner, external consultants/vendors, and our in-house R&D team and external collaborators, to complete technology transfer, develop protocols and quality systems procedures, and assist in process development, method validation and downstream analyses (both in-house and outsourced). These are with the goal of generating proof-of-concept pre-clinical data and contributing to the CMC sections to support the regulatory dossier in future for early phase clinical trials.

Other job responsibilities include participating in BetaLife’s existing pipelines in stem cell banking (in compliance with GMP) and stem cell-related research services.

The candidate is expected to play a proactive role as part of the core team and possess an entrepreneurial mindset. He/She may be entrusted with varied assignments covering both scientific and commercial activities, and have the opportunity to contribute substantially, and grow and develop with the company.

 

Job Requirements

  1. Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or related disciplines
  2. Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques
  3. Experience with mammalian stem cells (especially human pluripotent stem cells) or pancreatic islet cells will be valued
  4. Experience with process development and validation will be valued
  5. Possess a startup mindset, high level of adaptability and proactiveness
  6. Highly motivated, innovative, and able to work flexible hours (including some weekend hours) in a fast-paced environment
  7. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task, work independently and also as part of a team to achieve assigned tasks within required timelines
  9. Fluent in both written and spoken English; fluency in Mandarin is a plus
