Description

Castomize uses advanced manufacturing techniques combined with artificial intelligence to change how we create and interact with physical objects, positively impacting multiple industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and the environment.

Their first product is a series of novel 4D-printed orthopedic casts which are more comfortable and convenient for patients, easier and more accurate for doctors and nurses to apply, and more environmentally sustainable. With its advantages, the casts are well-positioned to be the new global standard of orthopedic casting.

Project role: Materials Engineer (4D-printing)

The Trainee will work closely with senior leadership to take ownership of creating meaningful products. From day one, the Trainee will immediately impact our product strategy and direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research and develop smart materials suitable for 4D-printing suitable for different industries such as med-tech, urban environments, etc.
  2. Understand fundamental structure-property relationship for polymers and explore different types of chemistry to achieve the desired properties
  3. Utilise Design of Experiments to find optimal formulations to meet material product requirements
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and specifications for medical devices
  5. Develop prototypes and conduct experiments to validate and refine material properties optimising performance and efficiency
  6. Integrate and test new materials with evolving designs and other supporting components, troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues that arise
  7. Conduct feasibility studies and cost analysis for new advanced material technologies and components
  8. Document design processes, experiments, and results thoroughly, maintaining clear and organised records
  9. Keep track of raw material usage and forecast future needs
  10. Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices during all stages of materials development
