Overview
The inaugural 2026 Boston Orthopedic Technology Summit (BOTS) is intended to be disruptive, dedicated entirely to orthopedic innovation, research, and surgical entrepreneurship. We will bring together physicians, business leaders, AI engineers, students, PhD scientists, founders, CEOs, Board members, and investment partners to collaborate as equals.
We are inviting startups to apply for the BOTS Pitch Showcase: https://luma.com/1qqak7ae Our selection committee will choose 10 startups in each track (MedTech and AI). And in partnership with MIT Hacking Medicine, we are also launching the Cambridge Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Pitch Event for Technology Entrepreneurs (COMPETE) on Friday evening and the Hackathon on Saturday: https://luma.com/50tt827h

Dr. Stefano Bini is a world-renowned expert in total joint replacement and a pioneer in the digital transformation of healthcare. At the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), he serves as the Vice Chair of Innovation and specializes in hip and knee reconstruction. Dr. Bini is the founder and Chair of the Digital Orthopaedics Conference (DOCSF), a premier global event that bridges the gap between technology and musculoskeletal clinical practice.

Jon J.P. Warner, MD, Founder, MGH Shoulder Service | Professor, Harvard Medical School, Mass General Hospital
Dr. J.P. Warner is a titan of orthopedic surgery whose influence spans clinical practice, academic research, and healthcare policy. As the Co-Chief of the Shoulder Service at Massachusetts General Hospital and a Professor at Harvard Medical School, he is recognized globally for his mastery of complex reconstructive treatments. Dr. Warner’s commitment to "Value-Based Care" led him to found the Boston Shoulder Institute and the Codman Shoulder Society, organizations dedicated to transparency and measurable patient outcomes.

Wan Li Zhu is an experienced venture capitalist, a prolific angel investor in technology companies, and an active advisor to startups. Wan co-founded and runs MIT Alumni Angels, MIT’s official alumni-based startup investment network with presence in Boston, New York, San Francisco and DC. Under his leadership, the network has grown to over 1,200 accredited investor members (including 50+ VC firms) and completed over 100 investments in technology and life sciences, with an active community of over 250 startups. Startups in the MIT Alumni Angels network have raised in aggregate over $1.5B of capital since 2015.

Brian Hatcher was appointed President, CMFT, Trauma and Foot & Ankle in November 2021. He was appointed to the Company’s Executive Leadership Team in November 2023 and took on responsibility for the Surgical, Sports, Upper Extremities and Restorative Therapies (SET) businesses in September 2024.

In this capacity, he focuses on scaling innovative healthcare solutions and optimizing operational excellence for the organization. Previously, Jeff was the Chief Information Officer at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), where he directed the technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and IT operations for the world’s leading musculoskeletal academic medical center.

SUMAN LAL, Founder, TINS (Technology Innovation Studio)
Suman Lal is the Founder of Technology Innovation Studio (TINS), a Senior Advisor to the Cambridge Innovation Center & the Venture Cafe Global Institute. Suman's primary interest is in venture studio models for technology commercialization where he has accumulated deep experience as an operator for the last 15 years. He has an MD in clinical medicine, an MSc in human genetics, PhD in precision medicine and received his MBA from MIT as a Sloan Fellow, focusing on innovation and global leadership.
