Overview

This 13-week non-academic module provides a comprehensive overview of the important elements required to build and develop a bio-business. You will be guided on the process of generating a scientific idea and developing it into a business model and a real business.

Bio-Innovation & Entrepreneurship is jointly presented by SGInnovate and National University of Singapore – Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Over the course of 13 weeks, you will learn how to transform a scientific idea into a business model and real business, thus, helping to shape future entrepreneurs and managers in the biomedical field.

Course Objectives 

This module aims to:

  • Teach you how to transform a scientific idea into a business model and real product

  • Understand the challenges of building a technology company

  • Identify the issues in dealing with intellectual property, fund-raising, regulatory approvals, manufacturing, and commercialisation

  • Develop entrepreneurs and industry leaders in bio-businesses with tacit knowledge and important core values

  • Help shape future entrepreneurs and managers in the biomedical field

  • Support the advancement of medicine and usher the transformation that genomics, proteomics, molecular biology, and personalised medicine can bring to human health

 

Recommended Pre-requisites

  • Open to students and professionals from Life Sciences, Dental, Medicine, School of Public Health, Nursing (ie. Life Sciences, Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS), Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy), Bachelor of Nursing, Biomedical Engineering, and related areas and businesses.

  • Participants are required to work in teams and must be able to develop and present a business idea & plan in the biotech or life sciences field.
