Electronics engineer Zheng Yiqiao: I would like to sincerely thank Polybee, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Innovation Institute. Thanks to the support of these three parties, I was able to master the programming knowledge of robot automation in such a short time. (Photo: Chen Yuanzhuang)
The prospect of getting paid to learn how to programme robots and work for a Deep Tech firm deeply excited Mr Cheng Yi Chiao. This was what led Yi Chiao to join the nine-month Innovation and Enterprise Fellowship traineeship programme.
Armed with years of experience working in MNCs and startups, Yi Chiao was formerly with a Malaysian AgriTech startup, but he eventually ended the stint to move back to Singapore to be with his family during the COVID-19 outbreak.
He chanced upon SGInnovate’s PowerX Robotics programme and decided to apply for it.
Since November 2020, Yi Chiao had been attending his structured Robotics training at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and was assigned to Singapore-based AgriTech startup, Polybee, for his full-time, on-the-job training. Through this opportunity, he was involved in programming miniature drones for pollination, which reduces manual labour and raises productivity for the farming industry.
Come August 2021, Yi Chiao will complete his nine-month training under the programme.
"I do hope to grow in this space and help enhance food security in Singapore through Deep Tech," shared Yi Chiao with confidence that his new expertise would put him in good stead in the future.
